SPECIAL guest speaker at the DairySA White Gold dinner was Olympic swimming gold-medallist and Legendairy ambassador Michael Klim.
Before he went along to the dinner, Michael toured a working dairy farm of the Newman family at Newlyn Dairy, Meadows.
He said it was "fantastic" to see the inner workings of the industry, instead of "snapshots" from the media.
"It's great to get insight from farmers themselves," he said.
"There is a lot of detail and care that goes into looking after cows and producing milk. It is a really well-thought out and professional operation."
He enjoyed his involvement with the Legendairy campaign, which started late last year.
"From my sporting years, dairy is a big part of my diet," he said. "It's high in protein and the fats I needed - it's great for athletes.
"And as a dad with a young family, as kids are growing, their nutrient needs are changing, so it's great to be able to promote a healthy diet."
Part of his role was to share the message about consuming dairy at the start and end of the day.
"It's great to have a working understanding of where milk comes from," he said.
