TWO Holstein-Jersey calves made quite an impact at Gumeracha Primary School as students in Years 5 to 7 started their Cows Create Careers program.
The one-month-old heifer calves were delivered by Mount Torrens dairyfarmer Rick Gladigau.
Students Jordana Swinkles, Tander McDiarmid and Toby van Dyck said they were all excited about the calves.
Tander said he was looking forward to working with the calves and feeding them.
For Jordana, the appeal was the chance to make a movie as part of their overall program.
Toby said he thought the chance to graph what the calves weighed would be useful.
Teacher Marty Samuels said he had been involved in the program at his previous school in the South East and was keen to bring it to Gumeracha.
"It's a really good program to get kids in," he said.
"They're probably a bit young to be thinking about careers but once it's in their heads, who knows?"
The students took the chance to pepper Rick with questions, including asking what dairy cows ate, how much milk they could produce, where the milk went and even asking about farmgate prices.
They also found out what Mr Gladigau enjoyed most about his job: the variety of work!
