AN eye-appealing 16-month-old bull described as a "real sire of the future" was awarded top gong in the Royal Adelaide Show Red Angus judging for Raedean stud, Buln Buln, Vic.
Judge Glenn Trout, Wagga Wagga, NSW, ''really appreciated'' the length of body and power of his junior champion bull Raedean Just Cameron J2, elevating him all the way to supreme exhibit.
"He has the modern-day performance and muscularity that we are chasing in the beef industry," he said.
"I just love his length and eye muscle depth and when you put your hands on this calf he certainly has a lot of muscle to his make-up."
"He looks like a bull that is going to look over the fence and go straight for those cows."
It was a popular win and a special moment for Raedean's Annette Walker and Noel Gnaden, who have been breeding Red Angus for six years.
"It is our first supreme at a royal with Red Angus," Mr Gnaden said.
"I just loved his length, his overall quality, balance and softness, and he has a really good disposition," Annette said.
At 765 kilograms, he had an eye muscle area of 100 square centimetres was sold a fortnight before the show to a Red Angus stud at Bobalara in Vic.
It was a close decision between the bull and a six-year-old female shown by the Burpee family's Drayton Park with her four-month-old calf which epitomised the maternal strength of the Red Angus breed.
"She has proven the test of time in the industry and has excellent feet and legs," Mr Trout said.
