SA was well represented at the recent 2015 Angus Youth National Roundup held in Wodonga, Vic.
There were 16 SA participants among 152 competitors aged between eight-years and 25 years from across Australia and New Zealand in the 3.5-day program of educational sessions, competitions and fun activities.
The contingent, which took home many ribbons, included brother and sister Angus and Eliza Llewellyn, Jillangolo Red Angus stud, Keith, who were reserve champion paraders in their respective divisions.
Mark and Lynn Fairlie, Lanark Angus stud, Mount Gambier, received the Stewart Award which recognised a person or people who had contributed a large amount of time to the Angus Youth program that year.
Angus Youth development officer Alice Lodge said the award was given to the couple for their continuous assistance and support of the youth program over the years. They were integral members of the 2015 Roundup Committee and have been involved since 2007.
Two of their three children were entrants in 2015 and their eldest daughter Kate was currently in the United States on the University of Illinois Scholarship for winning the Angus Youth National Young Judging competition in April last year.
For the second year the Fairlies donated the Lanark Angus SA Junior Heifer Expo Award at the event.
Nominees were assessed during the event for their parading presentation skills, their cooperation and attitude, general knowledge and willingness to learn.
The 2015 winner was Damon Englund, Wynyard, Tas, who will attend the expo in July.
The Roundup's major fundraising event, the Special Dinner Dance, was a major success with 300 attending.
An auction during the dance raised $21,000 which will go towards funding next year's camp at a location yet to be determined.
Participants also paid tribute to the late Australian cricketer and Angus breeder Phillip Hughes by lining up to form the numbers 408 - his test number and his stud at Macksville, NSW - for the event photo on the lawn at the Wodonga Exhibition Centre during the Roundup.
