A WELL-GROWN yearling heifer outclassed a proven breeder in the Royal Adelaide Show Limousin female grand championship, under the astute eye of judge Glenn Trout, Wagga Wagga, NSW.
The top female, Blue Gum Hill Gayle, rose through the ranks in the strongest section
"You will have to prove me wrong in 12 months but I have gone for the junior champion," Mr Trout said.
"She has done nothing wrong at this stage that would take her out of the game.
"Her shoulder angle is near-perfect and there is plenty of capacity in this female."
It was the first grand champion for Blue Gum Hill's Lorren Hampton and partner Brenton Clark.
Blue Gum Hill also showed the senior champion female Mandayen Louis.
Mr Trout, who manages Birubi Limousin and Lim-Flex stud and is Australian Limousin Breeders Association president, described her as a "very sound, functional female".
"She is doing a good job on her calf and is on track to wean around two-thirds of her body weight in that calf," he said.
Fellow Echunga stud Brentvale muscled its way to the top in the bull classes with the winner of the 10 to 14-month-old class – with a Black Limousin – going all the way to become grand champion.
