THE 2015 Sydney Royal Easter Show grand champion Tycolah Monarch J135 continued his show ring dominance at last week's Dubbo, NSW, Poll Hereford National Show & Sale with sashes for junior and grand champion.
The September 2013-drop exhibited by Steve and Therese Crowley, Tycolah Poll Herefords, Barraba, NSW, impressed judge Andrew Green, Euroa, Vic, and associate judge Kellie Smith, Currabubula, NSW, with his muscle, shape, depth, mobility and butt thickness.
The 918-kilogram sire had an eye muscle area of 134 square centimetres and fat measurements of 17 millimetres rump and 11mm rib.
In his final deliberation of the junior, intermediate and senior champions Mr Green said he was "super happy" with his selection from 109 bulls exhibited by 48 vendors.
"They have plenty of carcase, they are alert, with good front ends,'' he said. "They are big from behind, very accurate in their movements, and we are really happy we could find bulls like this. It shows the breed is producing efficient carcase-orientated bulls to take the breed forward."
Monarch was sired by Tycolah Jovial F77, which completed the Sydney and Dubbo grand championship double in 2012.
Mr Crowley said Monarch was pumped to win from what he described as the best line-up of bulls he had witnessed at Dubbo.
"Monarch is by the best bull we ever bred, in Jovial and out of our best cow," he said
In the sale ring the following day Mr Green backed his judgement, buying Monarch at $20,000 for Red Hill Hereford stud, Euroa, Vic, which he manages.
Intermediate champion was Jinderlee Jackpot J15, shown by Richard Thompson, Jinderlee Poll Herefords, Gooloogong, NSW.
Jackpot sold for $20,000 to Chris Lisle, Tummel Herefords, Walcha, NSW.
Greg and Del Rees, The Ranch, Tomingley, NSW, exhibited senior champion The Ranch Tipperary J06, a March 2013-drop son of Days Wizard F84.
The 1030kg bull had an eye muscle area of 133sqcm and a scrotal circumference of 40cm.
Tipperary J06 made the sale's $36,000 third-top price paid by Bowen Herefords, Barraba, and Melville Poll Herefords, Vasey, Vic.
Tycolah went on to win the prestigious President's Trophy for best team of three bulls, with The Ranch second, and Days Whiteface Stud, Bordertown, third.
Although not snaring any broad ribbons, the five SA exhibitors were among the ribbons all day, winning two firsts, four seconds and two thirds.
