THE good times keep rolling across the state's cattle markets, with this week's sale at Naracoorte on Tuesday no exception.
"The job was better again today (Tuesday) here in the yards," said Naracoorte Combined Agents Association chairman Jason Mahney.
"The feeling is it's got to a stage where it's very good and we're thinking it may hold at that for a little bit.
"Down the track in a few months time it will be interesting to see where it gets to, but at the moment it's pretty strong."
He said good cattle were making between $3.15 a kilogram and $3.20/kg, with many selling at more than $3/kg.
"Where they were $2.70-$2.80/kg, now they're $3-$3.20/kg for your good cattle," he said.
Processors made up the larger buying gallery, securing the "better weighted" cattle, while restockers were operating on store types.
"They're paying good money there too, black cattle are making about $3/kg for steers - the job's going pretty good.
"It hasn't been at this rate for quite awhile, hopefully it does hold for these blokes paying big money for their store cattle."
The monthly Mount Gambier market is no exception, with EU accreditation paying off for Steven McLeod, Leaella Partnership/Morella, Wallacedale, Vic.
Mr McLeod offered 85 EU, Banquet-blood Angus steers which averaged $909.
The top draft averaged 296kg and made to $950 or $3.20/kg, and their second and third drafts made $910 or $3.31/kg, and $840 or $3.16/kg.
