MARYVALE Hammertime H300 proved a popular buy at the Maryvale Limousin Stud helmsman and AuctionsPlus sale at Kapunda on Tuesday last week, topping the bull sale section of the catalogue at $8000 to an undisclosed WA stud.
An outstanding son of Canadian sire TMF Westwood 505W, the bull had production $ indexes in the top 1 per cent of the Limousin breed, at +24 for 200-day growth, +43 in 400-day growth, +67 in 600-day growth and a domestic $ index of +$49.
Agent Dick Whale, Wangaratta, Vic, who bought the sire on behalf of its new owners, said it was the first time the cattle breeders had purchased Maryvale genetics.
"He's as good a bull as they've bred here," he said.
"He's the pinnacle of where the stud are at and the type they are breeding.
"He has structure, soundness and softness, which is combined with a low birthweight."
Mr Whale also purchased another two bulls for return buyer Peter O'Neil, Parawa.
Altogether, 21 bulls sold for an excellent 88 per cent clearance, averaging $3523, and grossing $123,150.
Spirited bidding across the sale sent bulls, females, and genetic packages to NSW, Vic, WA, and SA.
For the second year in a row, semen packages were offered by the Vogt family's stud - and they proved a popular commodity, topping at $10,500 twice for packages of 50 straws for a homozygous Poll Canadian sire RPY Paynes Derby, equivalent to $210 a straw.
The two semen packages sold to Annette Tynan, Birubi Limousin Stud, Wagga Wagga, NSW and to Deb and Tony Cotter, Brinsley Pastoral Company, Hawkesbury Valley, NSW.
Altogether 279 straws of semen, grossed $38,400.
Females topped at $5000 with Maryvale Caitlyn 7125, with bull calf at foot, selling to Kevin and Sue Nettleton, Unison Limousin Stud, WA.
