THE first progeny of Days Calibre G74- the $90,000 record priced bull sold at the 2013 Dubbo National Show & Sale-have shone at the whiteface breed’s other major multi-vendor sale.
Lachy and Lou Day and family, Days Whiteface stud, Bordertown scored two of the three major tricoloured ribbons- junior and senior champion- in the Poll Hereford section of the 50th Merial Eprinex Herefords Australia National Show & Sale in Wodonga,Vic
Their junior and reserve intermediate champion bulls were sons of the record breaker.
Days Carbine J141- the reserve intermediate champion- was given the nod by Canadian judge Lance Leachman, Big Gully Farm Herefords, Saskatchewan for reserve grand champion.
“He is a bull who was a clear winner in the class. He has a big top and you have to appreciate his balance and eye appeal and when you see him on the move he has a lot of integrity and flexibility,” Mr Leachman said.
The 23-month-old was a complete package weighing 828kg with an eye muscle area of 120 square centimetres and easy doing traits with 20mm rump fat and 13mm rib fat.
He was out of the same dam as the 2014 Intermediate champion and was the bull with the highest intramuscular fat in the catalogue at +1.4.
The junior champion was another Calibre son- Days Debonair J188.
Days Whiteface stud also won senior champion with long bodied bull Days Uriah J18- sired by Melville Excel E443.
The Day family’s impressive team of six won four of the 10 Poll Hereford classes and placed second in a further two ensuring they were again the most successful exhibitor.
The top accolade- grand champion Poll Hereford bull- was won by Allan and Colleen Green, Walcha, NSW with Ivy Bank John J10. In the Hereford classes the grand champion was won by EDR Civil War, EDR Herefords, Wynyard, Tas
