GREEN Triangle producer Neil Jennings (pictured with granddaughter Kate Rose, 8, Darwin, NT) said he was more confident in the beef cattle job than he had been for a long time.
Neil farms at his Gorae property at Heywood, Vic. He was pictured at the Hamilton, Vic, weaner sales earlier this year where he sold Hereford-Shorthorns, weighing 325kg, for $1.85/kg.
"If you look at the 10-year average for prices, it doesn't look very bright," he said. "But everything seems to be looking very good."
Neil has been running cattle for almost 40 years.
The main focus of his enterprise is on low cost production, good fertility and temperament.
"There'd been a lot of talk for months that if the blokes up north in Qld and NSW got rain, then the market would heat up, and it's good to see that's happened," he said.
Neil said in the past two years he had averaged $1.93/kg for his steers. This year they averaged $2.12/kg.
