CLARE district locals will soon have the opportunity to give their opinion of the carbon tax at a special meeting early next month.
The community forum will be held to discuss the carbon tax and its effects, Senator Sean Edwards said.
Guest speaker will be the shadow Minister for Climate Action, Environment and Heritage, Greg Hunt MP.
“The carbon tax comes at the worst possible time for Australian business and will begin a slow squeeze on the economy, hurting current businesses and driving away future investment,” Mr Hunt said.
“Australian farmers and councils are being dudded in an apparent deal which will prevent Europe buying Australia’s carbon permits.
“Such a deal will be a major blow to the Carbon Farming Initiative which is being touted by the government as a financial windfall for farmers and a means by which councils can offset their carbon tax bills,” Mr Hunt said.
Senator Edwards said the Shadow Minister would outline how a Coalition government would repeal the carbon tax and explain its direct action plan.
The forum will be held at Greg Cooley Wines, Main North Road, Clare, at 10.30am on Friday, September 7.
Senator Edwards said it was essential for those who wanted to take part to please register by September 5, by contacting either Tracy or Terri at the Senator’s office on 1300 738 260 or email senator.edwards@aph.gov.au
