St Mary Star of the Sea College
In Education

Welcome to the St Mary Star of the Sea College website. Our college was established in 1873 by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan, a religious order founded by Australia’s first Bishop, John Bede Polding. As you will discover, our college has a long and proud history of providing outstanding education for girls and young women, in the tradition of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan.

We provide an holistic education characterised by Benedictine values that include: a love of God, a love of learning, a commitment to hospitality, an appreciation of the concept of stewardship and the pursuit of peace in our lives and in the world.

Our college motto is “I am born for higher things” and through offering a comprehensive curriculum and a wide range of extra curricular activities, we challenge each student to strive to achieve her personal best. We are also strongly committed to the pastoral care of our girls and this commitment ensures that every student is supported, nurtured and valued as an individual.

The college overlooks South Beach in Wollongong and, as well as offering a beautiful location, we provide excellent resources including state-of-the-art learning facilities and a laptop program that provides laptops to all girls from Year 7 to Year 12. These resources, and the ongoing professional learning of our teaching staff, mean that St Mary’s girls receive the highest-quality secondary education as 21st century learners.
